The main functions of T&F Metrology Division are
Maintenance and dissemination of Pakistan Standard Time (PST)
Maintenance of the National Standards related to Time & Frequency Metrology
Maintenance of traceability for time interval and frequency measurement through GPS controlled frequency standard and Primary standard (Cesium Frequency Standard)
Improvement of existing techniques test/ calibration as well as accuracy and precision of physical measurements /p>
To carry out test/calibration of precision measuring equipment and standards related with time, frequency and rpm to government/private sector and industries including defense organizations and other stakeholders
To provide specialized training in “T&F-metrology and measurement uncertainty calculations” mainly to industry and organizations engaged in test and calibration activities
To take part in inter-laboratory comparisons (ILC) at the national and international level to ensure credibility, traceability and validity of tests/measurement results produced during test/calibration
To provide on-site test/calibration services to fulfill the demand of Customers according to provision in the QMS of NMIP
Calibration of oscillators, quartz crystal oscillator and Rubidium Frequency Standards
Calibration of frequency/time/revolutions per minute related equipment such as Universal frequency counters/meters, Frequency/Signal Generators, Stopwatches(Mechanical/Digital),Spectrum Analyzers, Measuring Receivers ,Multiproduct calibrators, Oscilloscopes ,Centrifuge machines Tachometers (Contact/Non-contact type), mobile manufacturing test sets etc
Time and frequency metrology division is maintaining its metrological traceability through one way time and frequency transfer via NIST ground station by GPS and through Cesium Frequency Standard which is the Primary Frequency Standard.
Secondary and working standards are being calibrated using the primary sources in-house within T&FMD
Time and frequency Metrology Division provide trainings as a regular activity to public and private organizations and industries, apart from it internships to graduate and undergraduate students is also provide on when required basis.
Time and frequency metrology division has extended its range of calibration upto 40GHz through BMR Project .Primary Cesium Frequency Standard has also been purchased under the same project.
Facility of Tachometer calibrator has been established under project title “Facility development of Revolution Per Minutes calibrations”
